The Aldila En Fuego series of shafts is new for 2010. There are three models.
The Serrano wood shaft is a low to mid launch in R, S, and X. There is also a Serrano Hybrid shaft which is a mid launch in .355 or .370 in R, S, and X.
The Wasabi wood shaft is a mid launch in R, S, and X.
The Habenero wood shaft is a mid to high launch in R, S, and X.
All En Fuego series shafts are designed to have a much higher shaft center of gravity (C.G.), or balance point than typical graphite shafts. A typical graphite shaft normally will have a C.G. located around 22 to 24 inches from the butt end of the shaft. The design of the new En Fuego shafts precisely locates the shaft C.G. at 20.0 to 20.5 inches from the shaft butt. The high balance point of the En Fuego shafts is beneficial for two important reasons. First, many club manufacturers are making their driver heads substantially heavier to aid in achieving maximum allowable head M.O.I.’s.
We are one of the pioneers of this with our Vector 460 Tour Spec driver. Word is that Ping® is now also doing this with their new G-15® driver, and we’re pretty sure others will follow suit as well.
Additional weight in the driver head makes obtaining higher M.O.I. easier, but can also throw of the balance of the assembled driver. With the high balance point of the En Fuego shafts, a driver can be assembled with a much heavier head and still obtain a typical club swing weight in the D-2 to D-4 range. Additionally, many driver manufacturers are extending the playing length of their new driver products to 46” and beyond. With the higher balance point design of the new En Fuego shafts, a 46”+ driver can easily be constructed with the final club swing weight within normal accepted ranges.
Another aspect of the design of the En Fuego series is that the flex and torque characteristics have been optimized to compensate for the change in club performance caused by longer drivers and/or drivers with heavier club heads. Both longer drivers and drivers assembled with heavier club heads with play softer than a standard length driver or a driver with a more standard head weight. To compensate for this effect the flex/frequency profile, tip stiffness, and the torque of the En Fuego shafts has been tuned to compensate for these performance changes and to allow the assembled driver to perform true to the intended flex even at longer lengths or with significantly heavier club heads.
The balance point, flex/frequency profile, and torque of the new Aldila En Fuego shafts are all precisely designed to give the player optimal performance with modern high MOI driver heads, and drivers assembled at much longer lengths.
Many people today are playing extra long drivers to gain back some of the distance that time has stolen away, if your one of then and you have had difficulty acclimating to the higher swing weight then this is a shaft you should consider.
